DONALD ADAMSON 

 

Donald Adamson, literary critic, historian and philosopher, was born in 1939 and educated at Manchester Grammar School, Magdalen College, Oxford and the University of Paris. He has written eleven books, including Blaise Pascal: Mathematician, Physicist, and Thinker about God (1995) and Rides Round Britain, an edition of the travel journals of John Byng, fifth Viscount Torrington (1996). He is also the author of a study of Pascal's Views on Mathematics and the Divine. His most recently published book is The Curriers' Company: A Modern History, a historical survey of the twenty-ninth livery company of the City of London. A Doctor of Philosophy of the University of Oxford, he is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature, a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society and a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London; he also conducts extensive genealogical research.

He has built up a library of 15,000 volumes. He is also the owner of an extensive collection of manuscripts, including many letters of or about T.S. Eliot.
